Murtaza Ali Jafari [Afghan Hazara] is an ongoing participant of the Refugee Art Project since 2011. He spent 2 years in the Christmas Island and Villawood Detention Centres. Regarding his knot drawings, he writes:
'The knots show that our lives are tangled. We asylum seekers are trying to unknot our lives. We are struggling, working hard to solve our problems, to resolve our cases, and even now I feel like we are in limbo.'
