Saturday 3 December, 11am
NURA artists Maddison Gibbs and Salllvage (Rowan Savage) come together with curator Dennis Golding and Gujaga Foundation General Manager Sally Walker to discuss the vital role of Indigenous storytelling and listening to Country.
Maddison Gibbs is a proud Gunu Baakandji woman who grew up in Dubbo, NSW. Both artist and activist, Maddison Gibbs practice examines dual histories – focusing on stories of past and present Aboriginal societies and spirit.
Salllvage (Rowan Savage) is a Kombumerri (saltwater) artist working at the intersection of music, performance and connection with Country. Rowan uses field recordings from his Country to make experimental electronic music that take the form of performances, soundscapes and interactive experiences.
Dennis Golding is a Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay artist, curator and First Nations Curator-Producer at Cement Fondu. His practice reclaims Aboriginal history and identity through sharing his personal experiences and childhood memories from growing up within Sydney’s Redfern. Golding critiques the processes of colonialism in Australia using a range of mediums to encourage new conversations around historical, social, political, and cultural narratives.
