Sunday 3 November, 2pm

We’re thrilled to present the first BETTER NATURE Art + Events Artist X Artist talk for 2024 between A Sudden Release artist @emily.greenwood and renowned artist and performance-maker @latai101. Together, the artists will speak about Greenwood’s new commission for A Sudden Release as well and their respective practices and relationship to culture.

Emily Greenwood is a mixed-Tongan, multidisciplinary artist and writer living in Eora. Their work explores themes involving body dysmorphia, intergenerational trauma, loss of culture, sexism, racism and classism. Recently they have began to investigate the intersections of Pasifika and Eurocentric art histories through their conceptual exploration of cultural appropriation and adaption. Their most significant work to date is their self- written, produced and published intersectional feminist zine ‘GRRL ZINE’.

Latai Taumoepeau makes live-art-work. Her faiva (body-centred prac:ce) is from her homelands, the Island Kingdom of Tonga and her birthplace Sydney, land of the Gadigal people. She mimicked, trained and un-learned dance, in mul:ple ins:tu:ons of learning, beginning with her village, a suburban church hall, the club and a university. Her faiva (performing art) centres Tongan philosophies of rela:onal vā (space/:me); cross- pollina:ng ancient and everyday temporal prac:ce to make visible the impact of climate crisis in the Pacific. She conducts urgent environmental movements and ac:ons to assist transforma:on in Oceania.
