Victoria Pham, Frozen Fungi mycelium sculpture work-in-progress, 2023. Courtesy the artist.

We’re thrilled to present the first collection of mycelial sculptures from artist and evolutionary biologist Victoria Pham in our Project Space within our second annual BETTER NATURE Art + Events program.

Spanning art, technology and science, Frozen Fungi unearths the complex thread-like network of mycelium, the underground messenger mushroom that unifies ecosystems and exchanges resources between plants, to form mycelial sculptures that envisions future possibilities of creating bio-fabricated materials, grown with Nature as a collaborator.

Within her interdisciplinary practice, Pham foregrounds Nature as a fundamental collaborator, creating artefacts that invite audiences to listen to the Earth and to view mushrooms beyond their culinary, psychedelic or poisonous characteristics.
