PROJECT SPACE | STUDIO A ARTISTS WITH ROSIE DEACON

In our Project Space, Rosie Deacon and Studio A artist Emily Crockford have created a heartwarming installation inspired by the local landscape, trees and wildlife. With a desire to let their hyper-colour imaginations loose and intersect through paint and materials, their carefree process has embraced the pure enjoyment of ‘making’. Spreading across walls and enveloping unwanted furniture and discarded objects found on neighbouring streets, visitors are immersed in their shared love of colour, pattern and koalas.

Interwoven into this environment are portraits of our neighbours, painted by Studio A artists Daniel    Kim,  Thom Roberts, Mathew Calandra, Annette Galstaun and Peter Dudding.

Studio A is a supported studio based in Sydney, Australia, which tackles the barriers faced by artists living with intellectual disability. The enterprise paves professional pathways for these artists so that they can achieve their artistic and economic aspirations.

Rosie Deacon’s relationship with Emily Crockford began in 2015, when she was a Guest Artist in Studio A’s Underbelly Arts Festival project on Cockatoo Island. Since then Deacon and Crockford have continued to invest in their friendship and professional collaboration, germinating new artistic concepts.
