Join the nationally-renowned writers of Sweatshop Literacy Movement for a critical showcase of performance readings, which explore the intersections between race, class, gender and the environment as part of our current BETTER NATURE Art + Events program.
Drawing upon their Palestinian, Sudanese and Tongan backgrounds, Katie Shammas, Yasir Elgamil and Winnie Dunn share their post-colonial vision for Australia and beyond.
Yasir Elgamil is a Sudanese-Australian writer residing on Dharug Country. Yasir holds a Bachelor of Arts/Science, with a major in English from Macquarie University. His first published short story is featured in Povo, an anthology about class published by Sweatshop Literacy Movement in 2024.
Katie Shammas is a Palestinian-Australian living on the lands of the Dharug people in north-west Sydney. She studied English Literature and Environmental Science and now works in the environment and sustainability sector. Katie has been published in Povo (Sweatshop, 2024), Red Room Poetry and kindling & sage magazine.
