The Long Form Episode 3: Rainbow Chan

The Long Form Episode 3: Rainbow Chan The Long Form Episode 3: Rainbow Chan The Long Form Episode 3: Rainbow Chan

We’re excited to present the third episode in our podcast series, The Long Form.

Episode 3 features Rainbow Chan in conversation with Josephine Skinner, Cement Fondu’s Director – Artistic & Curatorial. Underscored by an original new music composition by Chan, the podcast was recorded over the course and creation of Rainbow’s major new commission for Cement Fondu’s 6th annual pairing exhibition, Retellings (Revisions), with Turner Prize nominated artist, Sin Wai Kin.

The Long Form podcast follows the classic ‘hero’s journey’ structure of storytelling. It takes place in three acts and, in this case, our hero is the artist. We hear from Rainbow as she conceives, creates, and finally reveals her completed work at Cement Fondu. Along the way, Rainbow discusses what called her to become an artist, the challenges and learnings she encounters in the process of making, and, ultimately, if the journey has changed her or her practice, moving forward.
In Retellings (Revisions), Rainbow Chan’s major new commission included a series of silk paintings, a sculptural installation and short film, continuing her exploration of bittersweet bridal laments passed down via matrilineal storytelling through the Weitou women indigenous to Hong Kong.
