WE WEAR CAPES | KIDS WORKSHOP

WE WEAR CAPES | KIDS WORKSHOP

Kamilaroi/Gamilaraay artist Dennis Golding will present a workshop that explores ideas of identity and culture by producing a symbol that resonates to ‘Home’.

Referencing his work in our current exhibition Make Yourself at Home, Golding invites engagement with the superhero cape – a frequent motif in his work. A symbol of identity and a gesture of cultural empowerment, making and wearing capes becomes a way to show pride in one’s sense of self.

Each participant will produce a symbol informed by their memory, experience and identity, before painting it onto their very own superhero cape. The workshop allows us to consider how kids represent themselves and their home through visual motifs and symbols.
