Take a virtual tour around our current exhibition Contact Us, featuring Emma Finneran, Tom Polo and Campbell Patterson.
Presenting video, installation and painting, the artists in Contact Us trace ethereal and tangible actions that speak to how we connect in silent contract.
Accumulated gestures and the residue that remains inform the works of Emma Finneran. From the way we wash our hands to layers of greasy fingerprints, she highlights vocalised intimacies that reveal how we’re all unwittingly communicating and forever touching.Tom Polo traverses painting, text and bodily gesture to hone in on the physical and emotional zones of contact between people. In bold colour, the carnival of everyday life is evoked with references to puppetry and personifications of the body. Layering gestures, perspectives and possible interpretations, Polo suggests that identity shifts at moments of connection as we leave traces of ourselves on each other.
Campbell Patterson examines emotional responses, personal boundaries and the abjectness of the bodies of strangers. From emotive end credits to publicly-discarded toiletries and the common scenario of trying on pants that just won’t fit, Patterson heightens our shared humanness with humour and sensitivity.
The virtual gallery also invites you to view Mobile Colour, our latest Project Space partnership with Studio A.
